Above is a world cup advert which I think is excellent. This advert is about what would happen to players in the future if something good or bad happens. An example of this is with Wayne Rooney after he makes a bad pass, it shows that everyone starts to hate him which then leads to him doing groundsmen work and in the end growing a beard looking like a slob. This is a stereotype because people think that other people who grow beards have given up and don't care anymore. But then it goes back to the match and you see Rooney tackle Ribery which then makes everyone like him and he has a great life
Hey Hamish, I think you might want to look at how advertisers use the world cup. Maybe concentrate on one campaign in detail. Look up Fifa world cup sponsers and concentrate on one of their campaigns.

possible ideas:
How do advertisers utilises national stereotypes (Nike ad)?
Multi national audiences how are they marketed to?
(Speak to Mr Williams for guidance on narrowing down the CI)
Something in these areas would enable you to create an ad campaign for the world cup. You would be looking at a print campaign so maybe 1 advert for football hoardings 1 for billboard and one for a magazine. Each piece should be different but there should be a theme running through them all.
